Dogs Done Right: Hot Dog Etiquette
You may think you know how to eat a hot dog. You just, you know, eat it, right? Not so fast. According to the National Hot Dog and Sausage Association (yes, it’s a thing), there’s a right way and a wrong way to devour your dog. You might want to take notes.
There’s an optimal order for hot dog toppings. Start with wet condiments like ketchup; then chunky ones like relish; finish with spices like celery salt.
Dress for success
Always apply toppings to the dog, not the bun. (Who likes soggy buns? Not us!)
Never use utensils to eat a hot dog, even the super-messy ones like chili dogs. Pro tip: napkins. Lots and lots of napkins.
You should eat a hot dog in five bites – no more, no less – with one exception. You’re allowed an extra two bites for a foot-long dog to prevent choking. We want you to live to eat another dog!
We’re going to add our own – Ball Park® Buns. None of the above would really matter if you weren’t using America’s favorite bun, right? Check out our product finder to make this “do” easily done.
